This recent at-home session reminded me exactly why I love photographing families at this age — especially in the comfort of their own home, with the family dog padding in and out of the frame.

“We’re awkward in photos…”

Before the session, mum told me she loved the idea of beautiful family photographs but hated the thought of posing. She felt awkward. Worried the baby wouldn’t “perform.” Wondered whether the dog would behave.

And honestly? That’s exactly why I do what I do.

There was no stiff posing. No pressure. No “everyone look at the camera and smile.”

A beautiful couple, who have been on an incredible fertility journey, invited me into their world for a moment—to capture the arrival of their long-awaited baby boy. Their journey to parenthood has been marked by bravery, strength and grief.

When is the best time to book your maternity photo shoot?

I get answer this question a lot!

The answer is when your are ready. Some expecting mums and parents like to capture their pregnancy milestone early any time after 25 weeks. When your bump is just popping and you are still in the fabulous second trimester and are full of energy.

Some mums like wait until bump is in full bloom any time between 30-34 weeks.

Each mummy will feel differently and your beautiful baby bump will grow and pop at different times. So I like to keep in touch with my clients to find out the best time for them.

I photograph maternity session all around Harpenden, St Albans and Hertfordshire either outdoors or in clients homes.
